"Funeral directors will be critically aware of the grief and suffering following the Port Arthur shootings," said Mr Ken Maurer, president of the Australian Funeral Directors Association.
"Although we work on a daily basis with families and friends of deceased persons, we cannot imagine the grief being experienced by so many," he said.
Mr Maurer indicated that AFDA was co-ordinating a team of expert mortuary professionals to assist local funeral directors in Hobart.
"A team drawn from other parts of Tasmania and Victoria will commence work this evening to prepare victims for repatriation," he added.
